200C vs. 280C: Weighing In Dogtra’s Popular E-Collar Models
Effective dog training means having a well-behaved dog with their life, safety, and freedom intact.
Dogs are dogs. They love to run, jump, play, and chase. Fur parents treat their pets as their children. They want to teach them good behavior as much as they want to teach their own.
How do we reconcile the two? E-collars are specially created for you and your dog in a win-win scenario.
What is an E-Collar?
E-collars are effective and easy-to-use tools for dog training. These allow you to transmit a signal from a handheld remote to a receiver collar worn by your dog. The signal lets you get your dog's attention even from afar to teach good behavior. E-collars are also known as remote training collars, remote trainers, dog shock collars, or electric collars.
Dogtra is the leading brand in developing intuitive and durable remote training collars. In this blog, get to know two (2) of Dogtra's most popular models - the 200C and 280C remote trainers.
Dogtra 200C and 280C e-collars have the excellent features of larger Dogtra e-collars. Their ultra-compact build is designed to fit dogs as small as 10 pounds with mild to medium temperaments. Both models are available in two-dog systems: the 202C and 282C variants.
Main Feature 1: Range
The idea of remote trainers is that you can train your dog remotely. Your dog gets to enjoy off-leash freedom. You also don't have to follow them at all times.
The Dogtra 200C and 280C have ½-mile range. This is perfect for training sessions in your backyard, strolls in the park, or trips away from home.
Main Feature 2: Stimulation Levels and Output
Both ecollars have low to medium power output. However, they vary in the number of stimulation levels. The 200C version has 0 (lowest) through 100 (highest) levels. The Dogtra 280C, as an advanced version, has more levels with 0 (lowest) to 127 (highest) levels of stimulation.
Having more levels gives you more options to find the right level of stimulation suited for your dog's temperaments. This means that incremental levels are closer in value. So, there are no higher jumps in between levels. A mild reaction from your dog indicates the perfect level is found to communicate commands.
Adjusting the stimulation levels is done through Dogtra's patented Rheostat Dial. This allows you to find the precise setting for your dog. The 200C has a front-facing Rheostat Dial, while the 280C model has a Rheostat Dial on top of the transmitter remote.
In this case, the 280C has the upper hand compared to the 200C model.
Main Feature 3: Training Modes
In terms of training modes, the 200C and 280C are comparable.
Training modes let you decide how you want the stimulation to be administered. These modes may be a single pulse (Nick), continuous correction (Constant), or a high-performance vibration (Pager).
Both models have all three training modes:
- Momentary Nick - emits a single pulse of static stimulation once the button is pressed.
- Constant Correction - gives continuous static stimulation as long as the button is pressed, for up to 12 seconds.
- High-Performance Pager Vibration - sends a vibration as long as the button is pressed, for up to 12 seconds.
Every dog is unique, and so are their temperaments. Some forms of stimulation may work on one dog but not on others. Here, you get to decide what training mode to use and that works for your dog.
Main Feature 4: Transmitter LCD
The Dogtra 280C has a unique LCD screen to let you know the exact stimulation level in use. The screen also indicates the battery life of the transmitter.
The 200C model has none. However, its front-facing Rheostat Dial is enough to see the precise level in use.
Main Feature 5: Transmitter Button Function
The 200C has three buttons, whereas the 280C has four with the added on/off switch.
The three buttons contain the three training modes. The additional button of the Dogtra 280C allows you to switch on and off the transmitter. The transmitter for the 200C model only activates upon pressing the buttons.
When the button is pressed for more than 12 seconds, the stimulation will automatically stop as a safety feature.
Other Similar Features
The Dogtra 200C and 280C have identical battery types and water protection features. Both models are powered by rechargeable lithium polymer batteries. Charging is also made easy and fast. A splitter cable allows you to charge the transmitter and receiver at once for only a couple of hours.
The 200C and 280C dog training collars have fully waterproof transmitters and receivers. There's no stopping you from training your dog even when it rains or at the beach.
