Here’s the complete guide to help you set up, use, and get the best performance from your product.
1. What's the difference between the 400 and the 402?
The 400 is a one-dog system. The 402 is a two-dog system that ships with two collar receivers, so you can train two dogs from a single transmitter. A 400 transmitter can also be switched into 2-dog mode at any time (and back), with the black "S" button controlling Dog 1 and the red "S" button controlling Dog 2.
2. How do I charge it, and how do I know when it's done?
Open the rubber cover on the transmitter and/or receiver and plug in the included charger. A full charge takes about 1–2 hours. The light blinks green during normal use, glows solid red while charging, and turns green again once fully charged. Only use the charger that came with your unit.
3. How tight should the collar be, and how long can my dog wear it?
You should be able to fit a couple of fingers between the strap and your dog's skin — tight enough for reliable contact, loose enough to avoid irritation. Don't leave the receiver on for more than 12 hours a day, and remove it right away if you notice any skin irritation.
4. What's the difference between Momentary and Continuous stimulation?
Momentary sends a single pulse per button press. Continuous sends pulses for as long as you hold the button, automatically timing out after 10 seconds as a safety feature.
5. How do I find the right stimulation level for my dog?
Let your dog wear the (powered off) receiver for a couple of hours first. Then, starting at level "0" in Continuous mode, slowly raise the level (about 2–3 per second) while watching your dog closely. Note the level where they first react — usually between 5 and 20 — that's their "conditioning" level.
6. What's the difference between the black and red "S" buttons?
The black button delivers stimulation at your set level. The red button delivers a boosted level (your set level plus a boost amount), for situations where your dog isn't responding to the normal level. Boost is typically 5–20 levels above the conditioning level.
7. My receiver isn't responding to the transmitter — what do I do?
First, check that the receiver's light is blinking green and the transmitter's display is on. If it's still unresponsive, re-pair them: turn the transmitter on with the dial at "0," turn the receiver off, then hold the transmitter's red dot to the receiver's red dot for 5+ seconds until the receiver's light flashes rapidly green, then press and hold the black "S" button followed by the red "S" button until you hear a confirmation sound.
8. Is the collar receiver waterproof?
Yes, it's rated IP68 and fully water resistant. If your dog is regularly in or around water, tighten the receiver's screws once or twice a month (snug, not overly tight) to help keep water out.
9. Is this safe to use on an aggressive dog?
Have an aggressive dog evaluated by a professional trainer first. Dogs can sometimes associate stimulation with their handler, and in rare cases may become more aggressive if stimulated during a fight. High stimulation levels should only be used as a last resort in serious situations, otherwise keep the level under 5 when not actively training.
